Concert 24. April 2025

19.00

Kari Rønnekleiv is one of Norway’s most exciting and acclaimed violinists. She helped start the ensemble Trondheimsolistene and has, among other things, released four critically acclaimed albums in the duo Sheriffs of Nothingness, together with composer and violinist Ole-Henrik Moe. In addition, they also released the fantastic work Ciaccona/3 Persephone Perceptions (Moe as composer, Rønnekleiv as violinist) for which they received the Spellemannprisen.

As a classical violinist, Kari Rønnekleiv has played the solo sonata in A minor and the solo partita in D minor by J. S. Bach since her student days. Now, after 30 years, it is exciting to hear what experiences from life can show in the interpretation on an emotional level, but also from experiences with improvisation, folk music, contemporary music and early music. In recent years she has worked actively on intoning more purely (which is more common in Norwegian folk music) and on stretching rhythms and moods based on more exploratory, instinct-based music-making, which can be experienced, for example, in free improvisation.

The fact that the concert is set for the week after Easter is no coincidence, as the theme of the work is based on the death and resurrection of Jesus. Kari Rønnekleiv herself says that she hopes that her interpretation will give us a clear experience of the harmonic variations and the strong theme.
