About the project

Welcome to the opening of the solo exhibition Dialects in Wood by Tarald Wassvik, on June 22nd 2pm. Wassvik belongs to a new generation of artists who have established themselves in Innlandet in the last few years. His practice is rooted in painting and handicrafts, with a remarkable interest for combining practical and traditional techniques and knowledge with the high modernism of contemporary art.

His works are subjugated to long periods of transformation, equally emphasising natural processes of decay and weariness with different kinds of handy work, repair and a visual language of imagery. He describes his works as “objects for recollection of lost knowledge”. With Dialects in Wood stub ends from former art works are recirculated into new sculptural installations and reliefs.

The exhibition includes observations and materials from the local environment from the parish of Saksumdal, where Wassvik lives and works. This rises from a curiosity towards how we project symbolic values to nature, and if local environments can produce a meaningful contemporary identity. An essay for the exhibition written by Nora Joung will be published for the opening.

The exhibition is open 22. June – 11. August, Wed-Sun 11.00-16.00
